One of a Kind:

This exceptional Alta sports-racer holds a special place in the world of historic racing. It left the manufacturing facility on October 10, 1937, and was initially registered as 'IA-1891' in Berlin, Germany, under the ownership of its first owner, Franz Kitzerau. Identified as '64S,' this vehicle is one of only five of its kind ever produced, with a unique left-hand drive and a 2.0-liter supercharged engine. Today, just four of these 2-liter models remain.

Ownership History:

In 1966, M.W. Wood of Alburtis, Pennsylvania, acquired the Alta from Ed Jurist of The Vintage Car Store, New York, USA. Notable correspondences about the car include letters from Karl Ludvigsen (August 1965) and Stanley Novak (September 1966). Duncan Rabagliatti also exchanged letters with Wood regarding purchasing the car. Additionally, a letter from Denis Jenkinson (November 1983) attests to his familiarity with the Alta, having worked at Alta himself. Two letters from prospective buyers, David Baldock (1990) of the Alta Car and Engineering Co, and D.G. Kaas (1994) of Pennsylvania, are also included in the file.

Exterior:

The Alta underwent a thorough restoration in 1974, and it has been actively used in rallies and races since. The royal blue paint remains in good condition, complemented by striking red rims that enhance its appearance.

Interior:

Inside, the red leather seats with an appealing patina are in excellent condition. The brushed aluminum dashboard, adorned with numerous gauges, not only complements the Alta's aesthetics but also resembles an airplane cockpit. Behind the seats, above the fuel tank, there is ample space for luggage and other essentials.

Mechanical Excellence:

Equipped with Alta's 1,960cc twin-cam engine and a Roots-type supercharger, this car delivers impressive power and can rev up to 6,000rpm. With a total weight of 800kg, it boasts an exceptional power-to-weight ratio. Paired with a well-tuned four-speed Wilson pre-selector gearbox, it's a formidable combination, proven by its wins at events like Classic Le Mans.

Race and Rally History:

Following a comprehensive mechanical rebuild by then owner John Ruston, the '64S' achieved an impressive victory in the pre-War race at the Old-timer Grand Prix held at the Nurbürgring in the early 2000s. Between 2008 and 2017, the car actively participated and won numerous 'pre-War' races. The Alta also competed in prestigious events like the 'Fox and Nicholl Trophy' at Silverstone and races at Spa Francorchamps.
